FAQ

This is a list of joysticks tested after development of Tanarus. Since then, many new Joysticks have come on the market. We are not able to test each new joystick. We are confident all new Joysticks, including USB joysticks, will work with Tanarus. However some manufacturers have not updated drivers to operate with Win2k. We suggest you contact the manufacturer if you are having problems with Win2k and your joystick.

Why does my gun fire when I use my hat for the turret?
This is caused by older CH drivers. The CH Flightstick Pro drivers are out of date, and you must use the CH F-16 Combat Stick drivers. This driver needs to be used by the following joysticks:

  • CH F-16 Combat Stick
  • CH Flight Stick Pro
  • Gravis Firebird 2
  • Gravis Thunderbird

Note: This driver can be used for any CH or Gravis product that utilizes a "hat".

Why does my tank move when my joystick is in the idle position?
This is caused by either an uncalibrated joystick, or the throttle setting is not off/neutral.

Why does my joystick not function, or behave incorrectly in Tanarus?
This is caused by either an uncalibrated joystick, or incorrect/out of date drivers. Please be sure to use the most recent drivers from the manufacturer. Check the list above.

I've calibrated my Sidewinder 3D Pro, but Tanarus doesn't recognize it. What do I do?
  • In Windows, right click the My Computer icon on your desktop.
  • Scroll down to Properties and left click Properties. System Properties should appear.
  • Left click the Device Manager tab.
  • Double left click Sound, Video, Game Controllers.
  • Double left click your soundcard. Example: Ensoniq Soundscape.
  • If your soundcard has a Settings tab, left click it.
  • Make sure that the check box for "Use demand transfer mode DMA" is not marked.
  • Left click on the Resources tab.
  • Left click on the check box "Use automatic settings."
  • Left click on the field "Settings based on:"
  • Use the down arrow to change the Basic Configuration.
  • Change the basic configuration to the last configuration possible.
  • Left click the OK button. A message box should appear asking "Do you wish to continue?"
  • Left click the "Yes" button.
  • Make sure that the Sidewinder 3D Pro works properly in the Control Panel. Now load Tanarus.

Note if the above steps do not fix your problem, try using a different "Basic Configuration" for your soundcard.
